Dr. James O'Brien

Dr. James O’Brien spent fifteen years teaching secondary school science before completing his Doctorate in Education, where he studied how schools can better communicate student achievement to universities, employers, and parents. Today he writes, consults, and advocates for credentialing systems that go beyond the transcript.

His classroom experience gives him a ground-level perspective that is rare in education policy debates. He has seen first-hand how talented students — particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds — are overlooked because their achievements are not captured in formats that decision-makers trust.
